The Lockhead Industries P-88 Comet

The symbol of American air superiority before the war, these fighter jets can be found all across the country in various states of decay. Although devastating on the battlefield, they required immense resources to bring into a fight and so many were kept grounded unless absolutely necessary. Without regular maintenance these once great machines fell to ruin in a matter of years after the bombs fell, though several pre-war caches are rumored to hold models in restorable condition.

One of these caches was discovered by Gerson Ashcroft on his journey south from Anchorage not long after the radioactive dust settled on the region. Rarely seen, they are reserved for particularly stubborn problems, and even keeping them in working condition costs the faction a tidy sum of their monthly income. They are primarily a tool for keeping the Enclave in check, as they diverted their own attention onto more practical wasteland vehicles long ago. Not expecting to have competition in the air, they have left their vertibirds vulnerable to these fast-moving fighters and have no readily available counter.

Recently a squadron has been deployed to Moletown on a recently built airbase. This move was especially suspicious to the rest of the Syndicate as it tripled the cost to maintain the fleet with the conditions of the area. Live training sessions can be observed an even the occasional weapons test. The sight of these pre-war machines strikes fear into the denizens of the Great Dust Bowl, large or small, and many settlements have simply left the area. While wastelanders preach of signs that the world is coming to end, ghouls everywhere fear the coming of an open civil war.
