The Vault 219 Conspiracy
Waking up in the aftermath of a devastating battle, a group of survivors have begun to lay the groundwork for a fledgling settlement on the precipice of the Black Mesa. Scavenging the bodies and wrecks, a structure has risen from the ashes of the sacked caravan and armed the strangers for the challenges yet to come. A bit traumatized from the ordeal or just used to the toothier side of the wasteland, some squandered no time in resorting to cannibalism to stretch the thin rations with no protest from anyone vocally anyway.
Now making deals with the complex discovered below, it seems that Vault 219 has some secrets even the current dwellers were not aware of. A race of mutated creatures, inbred from years of neglect and isolation from the outside world, they now threaten the new community’s safety if left unchecked. Not willing to risk their own security forces without knowing more about the condition of the sublevel, the Vault 219 robobrains have hired the group instead to serve as scouts so that they can properly assess the situation from safety.
Although many of these brains sealed in biogel seem almost as autonomous as the Robco variants that serve them, several have seemed to retain a bit of their former personalities. One such individual is the quartermaster, who personally hands each participant a loaded handgun, a baton, and a suit of heavy security armor on loan for the job. Not wanting their own space contaminated, outsiders must leave all their belongings in a lockdown area close the entrance to the facility.
“Listen up meatbags- The Overseer might think this is a good idea, lettin’ outsiders roam around inside the Vault- but I don’t! You’re going to be on a short leash and if you disobey my orders you are going to find yourselves into some accidents- real quick!" "You got two options once you get in there I figure. First and foremost, we are currently blind. We need to fix that so I can give you better intel on your surroundings. Plug this here holotape in the first terminal you see. That will give me override access on the cameras and maybe a couple doors if we're lucky." "Once you get that done the real work begins- but if you want to bow out, this will be your last chance!" "First, you can go in with the ‘Nuclear Option’. My personal favorite, and your closest object should you choose this route- You’ll have to sabotage the reactor and the geothermal plant. That is how they get their power. You cut that and the air filtration system will quit working and it’ll be impossible to breath down there by this time tomorrow." "You can also go in quiet, but you’re gonna have lots of ground to cover. If you do, you got to head for the power substation so we can reroute the controls upstairs, and the Overseer’s office so we can get the security back online. This’ll be about as dangerous as taking a Commie home to meet your ma and pa- so only go this way if you are ready for a hell of a challenge." "Either way I want my gear back in pristine condition! Pristine! Don't go getting clever trying to hide anything neither, this is ALL Vault Tec property! You WILL be compensated, just be patient and we'll settle up when ya'll get back upstairs.”
