Ticker Worms
There has never been an account of one of these creatures being completely above the surface, so their size is little more than speculation. Typically at least about a hundred meters of their bodies is witnessed above the sand, leading to the common belief that they are about three times this length in total. They possess powerful mandibles and prefer to drag their prey underneath the surface to let them suffocate and begin decomposition before consumption.
They earn their names from the noises they make when moving and communicating with one another. Usually found in groups of five or more, they create a vibration between them that allows them to soften the ground around them for easier movement. These low frequency humming noises are usually the first indication of an attack, though by the time most people put that together it is already too late.
Found exclusively in large beds of soft sand, they prefer to make their habitats close to the edges of the sandstorm. They will ambush just about anything that crosses their territory but cannot give much of a chase as they require their prey to be standing on loose ground. Sinkholes are commonly used to help them trap prey, since are not especially quick or dexterous once they have breached the surface.
