Vault 169 Sirens
What seemed like a horrible mistake or perhaps a morbid joke, out of the one thousand people that entered this Vault, there was only one man. By the time it was fully realized the door had already sealed and the population was now faced with a difficult dilemma. Equipped with a state-of-the-art medical facility, the Vault scientists got to work on a solution.
Foolishly optimistic about his odds, the lone male specimen was easily lured into a medical experiment that would place him in a chemical cryostasis where his ‘vital organs’ could still be accessed with the help of a syringe. Once the DNA is extracted it can be manipulated further to weed out potential birth defects and even enhance the progeny or choose the gender. The suspended subject can be stored long term in the event fresh samples are required or better methods are developed.
Once the time sealed doors opened two centuries later, the lack of genetic diversity was beginning to affect the census. New males needed to be added to their collection, so they devised a plan to broadcast distress messages to lure them in. Most wasters underestimated them, making it easy to place them in no-win situations. Those that are not stored for later DNA extraction are instead kept as guinea pigs for lab work. It is said that when the Vault door is open one can hear the screams of their victims from all the way on the road.
