Vault 199

Recruiting the best and brightest, this Vault was designed to preserve anyone deemed irreplaceable pre-war. Chosen not only for practical skills, some famous artists and musicians made it into the program as well. They were told that the experiment would involve some form of cryosleep, but Vault Tec was conveniently candid about the list of possible side effects.

Using DNA from Tardigrades and a modified strain of F.E.V. they were able to put a human in a state of perfect hibernation. Specialized machinery and automatons keep the body from developing physical complications. Concerns were raised about the long term mental health of subjects, however due to time constraints some clinical tests were waved. Awaiting an all clear from Vault Tec, these catatonic dwellers have been in stasis beneath the sands for two centuries.

Oddly enough however, some people in the Great Dust Bowl already claim to know about this Vault. Urban legends have sprung up about men and women in blue jumpsuits visiting people in their dreams, the number a hundred and ninety nine displayed prominently on their backs. Stories paint them as guides, showing up during regional struggles to pass along everything from a simple message of hope to full schematics of pre-war technologies.
