The Leongling Relics
The House of Leongling is the most powerful and famous of the families in the Great Realm. A large part of this is perhaps attributable to their mystique and control of a number of legendary and powerful magical objects, know together as the Leongling Relics.
The Six Artefacts
1. Ardon – The shield of the Leonglings, and one of the only three artefacts still in the possession of the royal family. Associated with Forte, this shield is shaped like a kite shield with the top “cut off” to allow the user to peek over, with an unusual dark sapphire surface (along which it is said you can see dragons dance if you look closely or other such things). Gold rims its edge with golden rivets. The shield rumoured to be able to protect the user against even magic.
2. The King’s Cloak – Records detail the appearance, as a deep midnight blue with golden threaded edges, with a gold pin in the shape of ram horns, which holds it fast. The rest of the cloak has a golden choker which reaches down to the top of the user’s back. The edges are rimmed in golden thread spelling out long lost runes.
3. The King’s Seal – Hidden by each king before his death, this ring doubles as a seal and is well known, being reflective of the nobility ring system. It is gold, with the dragon icon of the king made from silver and sapphire on its surface.
4. Rhioden: The sword of the First King. Lost of hundreds of years now by Martin IV, a rightly despised and arrogant king. Few to no records record its appearance, but legends said it was the most powerful weapon in all the realms.
5. The Armour of the King – A golden set of armour with dragon accents. It is a mirror of the King’s Shield’s armour, and clearly where the inspiration came from, reflecting one part of the Gods.
6. The Mithani Crown – The ultimate symbol of authority, with antler elements woven throughout its length. It is needed before the king can be crowned. It was returned to ‘the marble vaults’ after each king's death.
Significance
The relics are the symbols of royal power and authority. They are associated with the lions of the royal house and stand as a potent example of their legitimacy, handed down from the gods. Whilst the Leongling's hold the relics it is clear to those around them that the Gods favour them and have intervened in their success directly. For any god fearing animal, this cements their status and the privilege accorded to them.
