Border

Also known as the stark contrast to Haven, Border is one of, if not the most welcoming city to the magical arts. It is located in the Southeast of the Upper Realm, in the region of Gargoa, smack dab between the Morotha Wilds and the Zandria Forest.   It is not that magic is openly accepted in Border, only that it is seen as a more necessary part of life because of the two chaotic entities it resides between. Wandering Wilds are magical landscapes, constantly changing and shifting, and its magical swells often flood the outskirts of town, requiring magical aid to survive. On its other side, the Zandria Forest is, by plant and animal life, like any other temperate forest in the Upper Realm, but centuries of stories have filled it with strange creatures and nightmares. Some say it is the last holdout of the abandoned Beasts from the Lower Realm.   The magical markets are strongest here, with several herbalists and commonly known Magician establishments. You may not get wide open arms if you express a favorable opinion of magic, but admitting to the use of it will not get you aspersions either. Magic has infiltrated most parts of life in and around Border, and to outsiders seems like a city rampant with moral looseness and quick fixes. The truth is that Border does see a greater use of magic, including for enjoyment and relaxation, but it is regarded as more of an unfortunate necessity for a high quality of life than an evil or corruption. But most of its magic, both by city and by the common resident, is used in protection against the magical world at their doorstep. And as a result, magic thrives under thinner veils here. While Haven may be a refuge from magic, Border is a fortress against it.

A good standard fantasy view of a border town opens this article, in which magic can be celebrated relatively openly in order to keep the unpleasant natural phenomena (weather, flora, fauna) at bay. It is also possible that the dangerous situation creates the desire to celebrate, as you never know whether you will live to see the next day. Thank you for this brief, but funny impuls.

The world is not enough.
