Magicians
Among all the secretive magic-users, there is the Cult of Magicians who believe that magic is the fundamental current of all life. All people have magic, and even those who are born without the ability (the true-true no-magical-ability-at-all Mortals) have magic in their make-up, just cannot access it.
Not all magic-users have to believe this line of thought to be able to use and manipulate magic, but it is undeniable that Magicians are the most powerful writers of all. This may be because their perception of magic allows them to better manipulate and understand its workings, but others attribute much of their magical prowess to the inter-sharing of information between them. Within the Cult of Magicians there are many schools of thought, and though there may be strains between all their houses, they are united by the common belief of magic as central to life.
The House of Callian is the most notorious of all the houses, simply because their healing philosophy is most known. But truthfully, they are one of the more open in thought and to outsiders. Among Magicians, they are seen as sell-outs, working for all and offering their goods up for just anyone.
One of the most secretive, but perhaps most prestigious houses is the House of Aternalis, a group known only by whispers. They are said to desire the reopening of the ladder between realms in the hopes of strengthening the magic in the Upper Realm. (In the Upper Realm, very little is known about the ancient magics and the Lower Realms and therefore most are unaware that the Upper Realm has the strongest magic at all.)
The only Magicians that have a halfway decent clue about the true nature of the Realms are the House of Istoria, who are the recordkeepers and truth-seekers. They study and guard the history of magic, including the very few surviving texts from the Lower Realms and oral traditions.
To join any of these or the countless other houses of Magicians, a magic-user must vow to uphold their practices, dues, and prove a true belief in their philosophy. Most often, hopefuls are simply interrogated with truth runes inked on their body, but some houses have tasks or binding oaths that must be undertaken as well prior to membership.
