Archon Stones

As seen in
"Wait wait wait, please. What. is. that? I simply must see it."
"Very well, we found it in an old ruin on the hillsides to the east of the mountains. We aren't really sure what it is, but it sure is pretty. What is it?"
"That, my friend, that is an Archon stone. Very rare, very powerful... Would you and your companions be interested in...selling it to me? I can offer a number of services, or an amount of coin. I could summon you a familiar from the plane of fire, or enchant an item for you, multiple enchantments even. I could imbue one of you with an aspect of elementa. I could barter a deal with a greater being for you. What could I offer you?"
"You really want this thing huh" A brief discussion amongst the companions transpires, and my master was growing visibly anxious about the proceedings.
"How about you enchant all of out swords with an aspect of fire, and a lump sum of 3000GP?"
"Deal, one moment." My master swirled his hand out and a scrying portal appeared with the Baron in it. "Your excellency, I would like to request a payment from your treasury, the travelers we had met have an...interesting artifact that I would like to add to the barony."
"What are you asking Alexander?"
"A lump sum of 3000GP, and enough to reagents to imbue multiple weapons of fire."
"Will this be worth my investment?"
"Exceedingly so Sire, and then some beyond that."
"I will trust you on this, I will want to see a return on this later."
My master wrote a promissory note and handed it to the Companions, they all looked at him in surprise. They asked if this rock was really worth this much, and my Master took the stone from them and sent them off to the treasury.
-Passage from the apprentice's notes of Zybtine's Court Wizard.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The nature of these stones also makes them physically impossible to hide. Reality bends around them, so that they always remain visible. While this seems to only apply when a mortal is handling them, as while they do sit out in the open for the world to see, they are somehow always difficult to see until someone is handling them.
To the exceptionally few casters that have ever used one of the stones and survived the ordeal, a few odd quirks are made apparent. Firstly: Noted by the two Sages of Huron, Emily and her Master, a mysterious woman appears before the caster as they use it to explain a unique situation in magic. Typically this has been something that has not yet been known to the magic instatutions. However, what is shown to the caster, is unparralled and peerless in power and efficency.
Another odd quirk is that the caster needs to think about something specific to have the stone work. The caster needs to think about someone they love or their family, otherwise the stone will refuse to operate. This has tended for anyone using the stones to become a much more pensive individual.

History

Archon Stones are items of primordial creation. Vestiges left from the forging of all the realms by the gods. They appear as many different entities or objects, they are however typically inanimate objects of excessive clarity in reality. For instance a Archon of Sky would appear as perfect cloudless day in full sunlight made solid. An Archon of time would be perpetually fading in and out of sight, and the ground beneath it would be in a constant state of change.

Significance

These stones are incredibly rare and powerful magic artifacts. Though they are next to impossible to tap into without the right situation or level of skill. They could be used as conduits to amplify magics of that type as well. They are prized by all magic users of the world, and most would be willing to buy, trade or service for such an artifact. Depending on the need of the person, the price could be potentially limitless.

I like the passage. Now I kind of want to add something like that to my own articles, as I enjoy writing prose without needing to write a whole book.   Thanks for the inspiration!

I always think it adds just a bit of extra flavor, shows a particular attitude toward something without sound like reading a textbook. I'm glad to help!

May you find the truth as it billows through the branches...
