Cori's Earring

As seen in

Scene

“The raid was going poorly, the Chief had decided to try and surprise the caravan of Merchants coming up from Willowbrook. We were going to drop down on them from the trees, take down the horses, and that odd mechanical engine that puffed steam like an old stovetop. We were all set, ambush set up perfectly. Only issue I had with his plan was that we were facing the light, sun right in our eyes the second we were on the ground. When we hit the ground, shielding our eyes from the bright sunlight. Too late, the merchants we were hunting hadn’t been nothing. They turned on us quickly, one pulling one of those new handguns the city had started using, the others leveling crossbows at us. Ghet had run up to the gunslinger, taking a bullet through his arm, but still managed to slice open his arm.
While I hid back from the action like Yorm told me too, I couldn’t help but be impressed with Ghet’s speed with that knife of his. One of the other raiders was trying to manhandle one of the crossbowmen, keeping the thing from being pointed at his chest. Chief came charging in, his ax raised, that was my signal.
As I rose, I heard the twang of the crossbow. Time moved far slowly, watching as the bolt time came closer and closer. I was still in the middle of rising, my ears weighed down by my heavy earring. The metal sparked as the bolt struck it, ricocheting into a tree next to me. Dazed I laid there, a wicked gash across my cheek. A dent in my earring, that thing had saved my life.
It didn’t really occur to me until after Knoll found me lying in the tall grass, what had happened. I remembered him yelling for someone, I must have blacked out. The next thing I remembered was Mother Kari whispering a prayer over me, the soft feeling lulling me back to sleep.”[/quote]

Manufacturing process

While she never personally was able to see the ring be made, she assumed it was made in the City of Glaion as she had seen other guards and patrols wear earrings similar to hers. Though, hers seemed to be more of an exaggeration, as it is twice the size of the ones she had seen.

History

Cori was given the heavy iron ring as a gift for doing well in her first raid, by Chief Yorm. She had split the ring open with a chisel, removing the old earring she wore from her mother. Replacing it with the new one as a badge of honor.
Since then the ring has stayed a part of her. Many in the Skullbrood clan can’t actually picture her without the nose ring and the heavy black ring through her ear. It had become her identity for a while, while she earned a name for herself in the clan. After the event of that failed raid, she felt the ring had gave her luck with raids thereon, as the bit of metal had a penchant for giving her a second chance.
A few other notable examples of the ring’s luck gave her: it snagged on a branch jerking her head back in the middle of fight, where the sword of her opponent swung where her neck was supposed to be. Or, while she did lose this fight, she was able to survive a rock from caving her skull in by the ring dampening the force of the blow as it was pinned between her head and the rock. Raiding for the survival of her clan, it is never an easy task.

Significance

To Cori, it is sentimental. You'd sooner pull the sun from the sky, before she would give you her earring. It means much to her, she views is as part of herself. It has saved her life on at least a few occasions, and thats more than enough for her.

The Iron ring as she calls it, isn't actally made of iron, its a piece of Mithril infused with carbon for durablity and corrosion resistance. Uncommon as far as metals go, it's Dwarven in make, most of the Rings Humans wear are made of Steel, or Aluminum. While the metal doesn't effect the price, the ring is extremely similar to human versions of it.
