Third Era

2101 IY 2038 AC

Dominated and marked mostly by the presence of the Caelian Empire, this is the Era before the current. A lot is known from this time period, for the Caelians kept very strict, if oftentimes dry, records of the matters of the world and the Empire. This era is marked by rapid technological advancements in all fields of study. The Caelians invented ships able to cross the Argos Ocean and discovered the long-forgotten continents of Vrohas and the Northern Reach, as well as the ancestors of the First Peoples that had chosen those two continents. The Caelians tried many times to conquer the native Erathen and to wipe out the Eaters, but every time, it accomplished nothing except a draining of resources. The Erathen were hardy and clever, with thousands of years of military expertise and experience of fighting in Vrohas, and the Eaters had hidden tunnels and burrows and were masters of guerrilla warfare.   The Caelians retreated from their failed conquest much reduced in number, and never again tried to take Vrohas nor the Northern Reach by force, though there were many small skirmishes between the three over this era. After the failed conquest, the Erathen finally organized, and formed the kingdom of Eventell.   Eventually, the Empire declined in power and splintered into infighting, culminating in the eruption of Mount Galicais and Mount Ardenois within weeks of each other, killing over 200,000 people. The eruption contributed to global climate anomalies in the following years, and the Imperial Year 1956 became known as the "year without a summer" because of the impact on the weather. Crops failed and livestock died, resulting in the worst famine of the century, and the final nail in the coffin of the Empire though it persisted in nothing but name for another 200 years.
