The Crimson Insurgency

Known by a multitude of names, the Crimson Insurgency is a loose confederation of hundreds if not thousands of independent militant groups formed in opposition of the Noble Houses of Torgvald. In the wake of the near-instantaneous industrial revolution catalyzed by Imperial contact, power dynamics across the globe shift in favor of the peasantry. Over the centuries, peasant uprisings and civil unrest could be dealt with by a few dozen elite warriors, equipped and trained by the Noble Houses. Recent advances in weaponry, coupled with the mass armament of the planets populace in response to Chaos incursions, render all but the heaviest armor obsolete-- even the most talented soldier outfitted with the finest equipment stands little hope against a gunline.   While the Noble Houses and lowborn folk stand united with the Imperium against the cults of the Northern Wastes, class relations crumble into violence to the south. Far removed from their daemonic common enemy, the old elite struggle to control an empowered and emboldened peasantry. Uprisings and pogroms have become commonplace in population centers as militias sieze control of weapons factories and fuel refineries. Tanks and artillery intended to reinforce the beleagured northern trenchworks sometimes vanish, only to reappear days later, opening fire on Noble House positions.   The Crimson Insurgency narrowly escapes heretical classification and retribution by cooperating with the Imperium on a planetary scale. While each faction within the Insurgency acts with varying degrees of loyalty to the Imperium, many prominent groups routinely escort Imperial tithe transports, provide supplies and reinforcements to the Northern Wastes, and perform civic duties such as rebuilding damaged cities and propagating the Imperial Cult's teachings to the numerous remote peoples of Torgvald. Some question if these acts of allegience are but a facade to allow the Insurgency to wage war against the status quo unhindered, and that once the Nobility falls to rebellion, the planet will follow. Others assert that the Insurgency exists only to rid the world of a corrupt oligarcy, to pave the way to peaceful integration with the greater Imperium, and to purge the Archenemy from the Northern Wastes for good. Every day, thousands more across the planet take up arms to find out for themselves.
