The Dark Wood

The Dark Wood is a difficult place to reside in. This territory is split into quarters, each one held by an elven warden. The native Elves from these lands are spirit worshippers and are very isolated from the other beings within the woodlands. The elves of the North are tribes of war, the south are those who are skilled with magic. The elves of the east are the rangers and those of the west, were the most skilled with spirits. Before the invasion of Marakas. Now the West is a desolate land, spirits and trees torn asunder by the powerful magics of the now Slain God Queen. Only great spiders reside here now, alongside the Atarax-Quessir, contained by the western wardens. They are known for their tunnels that spiral deep under the woodlands but there are no words of what else resides down there.
There were no gods within the woods until the Free People built the portal to this new world, the residents of the Darkwood instead bartered with individual spirits. Each Spirit has its strengths and weaknesses and are bound by Geas that relate to their purpose. In order to provide protection to someone, the person will need to make a bargain with the Spirit. This deal will need to provide the spirit with something it needs in relation to its perview and need to be of equal value for sacrifice to assistance. Ie, someone who is looking to sneak into another tribes lands in order to spy might make a deal with a spirit called, Fleeting Shadow, rather than Raging Boar.
The One of the greatest spirits is called the Primal Tree, set within the South of the Dark wood. Feral elves with claws reside inside its branches. They revere this tree like, it itself is a God.
The woods have seen a change however. Since the Free Peoples walked their God Elm to the Lake of Tears, in order to ascend to the Heavens, the woods have grown wilder. The coiling brambles and great boughs of Blackthorn have been seen to grow on the edges of the Woodlands, making it more difficult for those not familiar with the trees to gain entry. Weeping has been heard in the wind, late at night. Some say it is this God creature, Elm, who is once again walking these woodlands. The spirits are unsettled by this divine being, some attempting to raise a rebellion against the entity. Others accept it as a greater being and carry on with their daily purpose.
There are beastkin that pass through these Lands, in order to reach Dentro and the other beast-kin that reside there. One of the free peoples, Latharni chosen by Green Man, remained in the woods beneath the ground in order to build a safe haven with any beast-kin who needed it. The passageway to this realm resides in the far North.
Despite the isolation between the different races and tribes all residing within the Dark wood, they all share the same goal in maintaining the borders. Although thanks to the Spirits, any who attempt to enter, that do not have the protection of a spirit are quickly lost, trapped walking in endless loops, or eaten. The Dark wood is living and breathing and will protect itself, alongside those that call it home.
For many years, the Mists have sat on the horizon, making no attempt to encroach on the Dark wood border line. Many believed that this is due to the magical potency of the three great Ritual Circles that are hidden within the trees. Some say that it is because the land itself was alive and will rise up to fight the outsiders. Some said, it was the Divine being that walked the same route every night.
All of that has now been marked false, as the mists moved to encircle the Dark Woods and cut it off from the rest of the Heard of Lands. During this attack, a ritual was performed which destroyed the Dentro in a land slide, the power funnelled into a raging storm, which had desolated the majority of the woods.
This storm still rages, a supernatural energy over blue skies. The figure of a roaring lion can be made out at a distances, and the cascade of rain obscures the land beneath. The Cataclysm - Current
