First conflict
Mafdet, to be closer to
Sothis, moved much of her tribe to some land granted to her by
Nethys and
Azghaad, to the west bank of the Sphinx River, displacing some of
Ankhu's people.
The city of
Khalit was built mainly on the eastbank of the Sphinx, and was controlled more by
Ankhu and his people as a result.
More government funding went to the eastbank of the river and the city proper
The snakefolk were richer as a result
The Amurrun, with a communal sense of ownership, were often seen as thieves, and developed into literal thieves as disparity and tensions increased.
The snakefolk say they made space in their home for the Amurrun
The snakefolk say the Amurrun stole their lands
The snakefolk say the Amurrun were unappreciative, thieves, and rabble
The Amurrun say the Snakefolk were selfish and didn't share
The Amurrun say the Snakefolk used their power pridefully and kept them under.
The Amurrun say the Snakefolk care for those close to them, not their wider community.
Centuries later
In an attempt to reduce tensions, Osiris brought about the adoption strategy.
Ankhu's Wadjet went to Ra, Renenuret went to Osiris.
Mafdet's Sekhmet went to Ra, Hathor to Osiris, and Bastet to Ankhu.
As the children grow..
Bastet, who is a bit of a wild child, not as disciplined as Ankhu would prefer, and not as dilligent as Mafdet would like.
Wadjet grows up in a house with Sekhmet, and is less dogmatic than her. It's commonly beleived Sekhmet is Ra's favourite child. Sekhmet is more agressive, Wadjet more protective and defensive. Sekhmet travels with their father more, while Wadjet mind the home front.
Bastet prefers to hang out with his Amurrun and human friends, becoming good friends (or more) with Ishtar.
The snakefolk say Bastet was a bad child
The Amurrun say Ankhu was a bad father
The Snakefolk say Wadjet was acknowledged as a dilligent keeper of the home and daughter
The Amurrun say Wadjet was useless, had no guts, and didn't do what her community and household needed of her.
The Eye of Ra.
Wadjet works dutifully to create the Eye of Ra, one of Osirion's most powerful artefacts, providing powers of protection, healing, rejuvination, and destructive solar power. It is said to provide immunity to energy damage, regenerative healing like that of a Phoenix, and the ability to channel the power of the sun.
The snakefolk say one of the greatest artifacts ever made was made by Wadjet
The Amurrun say one of the greatest artifacts ever made was made for Sekhmet
Ra's warnings
As Ra continues to travel, he keeps returning to Osirion to find it more and more racially segregated. By this point, An of Trinity has far more Amurrun, while Khalit is almost entirely Snakefolk.
Ra provides his famous warnings, and on the third, sends his daughters, Sekhmet and Wadjet.
Arrival in Khalit.
Ra saw Khalit as a symbolic example of the lack of integration, and wanted the daughters to go there first. Ankhu was in the capital, Sothis at this time, and had heard Ra's many warnings as the Pharoh, Osiris had.
Wadjet requested to speak first, to her people. She saught Bastet, though he was not present (Off in Trinity, or with his friends.)
Wadjet provided her intimidating warning to the city, and requested they comply.
The city did not.
Wadjet suggested to Sekhmet, Ok, lets' leave and find Bastet or Ankhu.
Sehkmet said, no. Ra has spoken. They have been aware of this problem for decades, now is the time of action. Use the eye.
Wadjet hesitated, looking down at the eye, and knowing it's power.
Sekhmet: "Use it."
Wadjet looked at the city, concerned, and back to Sekhmet.
Sekhmet, displeased with her sisters continued hesitation and inaction, took the eye from her hands, and activated it, empowering herself and adding the power of the sun to her already uncontestable strength, she laid ruin to the city as a hundred thousand fled.
Sekhmet said to Wadjet, it's time to move onto Trinity.
Wadjet, devostated, refused and decided to stay and help the survivors.
Sekhmet was frustrated, but not suprised that her sister was useless, and, as she wasn't contributing anyway, went off to Trinity without her.
Sekhmet's warning was heeded in trinity, and many evacuated the city without any destruction.
The Snakefolk blame Sekhmet, lady of slaughter for the destruction of Khalit.
The Snakefolk blame Bastet, for not protecting their city from his sister.
The Snakefolk see Wadjet as their protector, healer and the one who helped their city get back on it's feet.
The Amurrun see the Snakefolk as the problem in the first place, as validated by the great Ra by asking them to start there.
The Amurrun say Wadjet aided in the destruction.
The Amurrun say the snakefolk never followed Bastet's guide anyway because they're too stubborn.
The Amurrun say that Bastet's home was destroyed that day because of Snakefolk stupidity.
Bastet and Ishtar
Ishtar, who raided many of the gods lands, including that of many Snakefolk, was a known friend of Bastet. He was thought to of helped her get away with many assaults.
The Amurrun say that Bastet liked Ishtar's attitude and wanted to see an underdog succeed.
The Snakefolk say that this was the earliest signs of Bastet being hostile against his adoptive family the Thueban.
The invasion of the Abyss
Mafdet died in the assault
Bastet was devostated by the loss of his mother, who he had come closer to than his adoptive father.
Bastet was furious that his father was present in the fight with Mafdet, and didn't recover her body.
Bastet suspected he let this happen. Ankhu was too brave and bold. Why didn't he die trying? That would be more like him.
Ankhu said Mafdet sacrified herself to allow them to escape and to go against that would be dishonoring her sacrifice, and ultimately not successful.
Bastet took that as cowardice, and admission of guilt.
Bastet decided that none of his offered homes were for him, and he began his great wandering to find himself.
The death of Osiris
Set killed Osiris for causing the death of his mother, Easifuh.
Some beleive Bastet helped, placing some blame for the death of his mother on Osiris too.
The Snakefolk say that Bastet is a secretive liar who helped tear the country apart, not for a vision of a better future or to prevent mistakes, but for revenge.
The Amurrun say that if he did help, it was for sharing Set's worries, he is not a god of vengance. Idiotic vengance is snakefolk stuff.
Set vs Horrus
Bastet and his sisters supported Horrus, as they wanted a good ruler like their biological mother. Ra remained neutral, and forbade the use of destruvtive weapons such as the eye of Ra, lest he put a stop to it.
Ankhu supported Set, seeing Horrus as too young and idealistic.
The Amurrun say that Anku supported set because they view him as more selfish, self serving and evil.
The Amurrun say that Bastet supported Horrus because he is good.
The Snakefolk say that Ankhu supported Set because Horrus was young and immature, and not yet ready, even if he was eventually ready over a century later.
The Snakefolk say that Bastet supported Horrus to let him pick a fight with his father.
Renenutet and Wadjet supported their biological father's side, and Set.
Their territories all also fell into Set's lower Egypt (Capitaled from Sothis) while the Amurrun tended to live in the south, upper egypt, (Capitaled from Trinity.)
Bastet moves back to Khalit
Here, he was often seen with Ishtar, who supported Set.
He would often argue with Ankhu and was said to disrespect the laws of Set and Khalit. Sobek was on occasion sent to put him in line, never successfully. On some occasions, Hathor, Ishtar assisted Bastet in conflicts with Sobek, Ankhu and others.
The death of Ankhu
Too many stories of the death of Ankhu exist for anyone to know the truth. The most commonly accepted facts include:
Bastet and Hathor were there.
Bastet killed Ankhu.
But Why?
Amurrun say Ankhu started the fight, with intent to kill the Amurrun children, overestimating his power and might.
Amurrun say Ankhu charged into the fight without thinking it through.
Amurrun say Bastet and Hathor were likely not the only people there, and may not of struck the killing blows.
Amurrun say Bastet and Hathor wouldn't of killed Ankhu on purpose.
Snakefolk say that Bastet and Hathor killed Ankhu in revenge and because they were rebellious.
Snakefolk say that Bastet and Hathor if they didn't do it, were complicit.
Snakefolk say that Bastet and Hathor killed Ankhu to help the Amurrun secure more of the north.
Snakefolk say that Bastet had a history of problems like this well before now.
Ongoing conflict
Many battles between the lower and upper Osirian kingdoms saw the Amurrun and Snakefolk on different sides.
After Exodus
The First Mortal Pharaoh - The Song Pharaoh
Killed by the Masked Pharaoh, commonly beleived to be a Thueban descendant of Ankhu through Renenutet
Modern Rivalry
Snakefolk and catfolk clash over many things.
Perspectives
Sense of Community
Amurrun and Snakefolk both see themselves as communal.
Amurrun share everything, and have no personal posessions.
Thueban and Nagaji have personal posessions and prised posessions and a fierce sense of ownership.
Amurrun live in very large communities which they're expected to put first before the indiviudal
Thueban live in large communities, but put the personal family and friendship unit first.
Amurrun don't give and take orders, or respect agreements made by other people on their behalf.
Thueban follow orders from those of higher status than them in their unit, clan or society.
Sense of probability
Amurrun tend to evaluate things on a 'if I rolled this d20 20 times, I'd probably get a 1 eventually, and overall it'll be average.
Snakefolk tend to evaluate things on a 'if I roll this d20 20 times, i'll eventually get a 20, so my success is garanteed aslong as i'm resilient and persistent.
Sense of leadership
Amurrun look for, and tend to be, leaders who look after their broad clan, making sure everyone is OK at all times. Amurrun tend to avoid leaders with many failures in their record.
Thueban look for, and tend to be, leaders who push forward towards glory, relying on everyone to follow when they're comfortable or ordered to, and be resilient to the adversity along the way. Thueban seek leaders with the greatest successes in their record.
Solution preference
Amurrun Often try to avoid conflict and find more subtle or indirect ways of achiving their goals. They often dislike people because of specific things they've done.
Thueban Often approach headfirst, aren't conflcit adverse, and don't tend to hold specific things against people.
Forgiveness
Amurrun tend to be alright working with people they don't like if they like the direction and plan. They might love you, but they're not helping you with a stupid idea. They might hate you, but if the idea is good, they'll be there for it.
Thueban want to trust the person more than the idea, if they hate you, they're probably not going to want to work with you. If they love you, they'll back you to the hilt on anything.
