Rory Mcandrew

The former preacher and evangelist was and perhaps still is the voice of the Vatican in London. The Ventrue arrived in London in 1658 as an assignment from the Catholic church to as he put it "reign in the heresy that has become the norm in London". He is not exactly an inquisitor, though in the early days of his arrival this was the presumption, but rather he is a watchdog for the church to ensure that London's elite do not forget that even the oldest and most powerful vampires answer to a higher power.   Rory is not particularly liked, even among the faithful as his hard line attitude towards matters of faith feel particularly dated in the 1800's, yet he is given considerable control given that he holds no official position of power in the city by the Camarilla who themselves are heavily influenced by the church.   Rory conducts himself almost like a drill sergeant checking for dust on a recruits bunk bed, he see's his authority as being supreme because its not granted by the Camarilla, the prince or even the church for that matter, but rather the al'mighty himself. He is a priest of the strictest order and is well known for catching even the most minor slip up and he seems to be particularly hard on elder vampires in positions of power. He has been particularly harsh on trends like night clubs and those who do not attend his midnight Sunday mass. He is known to report to the highest powers in the Vatican and has been personally responsible for at least a dozen harsh punishments for those that don't fall in line.   Of all the things he is a critic of however, none more so then the Tremere chantry and the arrangement the Camarilla have in London with the Tremere kindred. Their "so called research" in his eyes is nothing short of pure heresy and insists on a policy of full disclosure, pushing both the prince, the Camarilla and the Tremere to constantly explain and detail their research in reports that are analyzed and send off to the Vatican for review. Any signs of heretic activity and one can expect to very quickly be dragged in front of the prince or potentially even an inquisitor to explain themselves.   Rory is virtually never seen in social occasions, he frequencies no night clubs or participates in any form of entertainment. His only appearances are in an official capacity and he is a particular nuisance at monthly Elysium meetings where he is almost always the most vocal and disruptive individual putting to question every request, decision and opinion presented in court.   Rory has no known associates in the city he considers friends or allies, though its well known that the Vatican considers his safety the responsibility of the prince to whom Rory is considered to be officially an honored guest of the city as dictated by the Vatican and the Camarilla.
While the Vaticans powers has waned considerably by the 19th century, it's still one of the most powerful organizations in Europe. The feud between the Vatican and the Tremere has added to the hostility between the two factions that is becoming so heated at times it would appear that its only a matter of time before an event triggers the dispute causing it to boil over. Kindred like Rory are at the forefront of this dispute, acting as the moving lips in the debates.
