The Final Session!
We are only hours away from our final session of the History of Vampires chronicle and so I thought I would say a few words before hand as I believe this last session will have a slightly different feel then what we would normally have in a typical session of the game.
First however lets quickly go over some practicalities.
The game begins at 3pm at Joel's place. We were originally going to do it at my place, but my wife had to cancel her plans this weekend, she needs the rest so we moved it. It remains unchanged beyond that.
There will be ample food (Chicken Chili made by yours truly) and wine (I will be providing enough to keep us going the whole night). If your going to drink, please plan your trip there and back safely, no foolishness, we have a cop in our group now so we have to be all obedient and lawful like. I highly recommend bringing snacks and drinks, regardless of the outcome its going to be a long day so be sure to do your yoga before hand, its going to be a back breaker!
With that out of the way, lets talk some logistics.
This session will be different in three ways, which will affect both how the session is played and how it will feel narratively speaking. In all three ways, your participation and compliance in the matter is necessary.
The first main difference is that this WILL be our last session no matter what happens. What that means is that, at the end of the session, regardless of any untold and unresolved stories, the game will end and the remaining story of your characters will be written postmortem assuming you are still alive. This story I will write with your influence of course, but the main point is that it ends. As such, you should come to the session with some narrative idea about how you want your characters story to end. I can't guarantee any specific ending, but from the moment we start you should be working towards your end goals. Who is your character and what does your character want out of the current situation, what does his or her future look like. Think about it, contemplate it and then bring it to the game and will it to happen at our session. It will be your last chance to do so.
The second difference is going to be atmosphere and pacing. We are going to take it slow and everyone is expected to be fully respectful and patient with your fellow players. I want everyone, which includes me, to really help tell the story. How are you feeling, what do you see, what is the scene. Help me to make it vivid, take the time to elaborate and allow others to do the same. I would like to see less interjected goofing about in this session. I want it to be the solemn, gothic, dark horror moment that brings our chronicle to its end that it deserves to be. The story is in a dark place, lets build the suspense and make the completion ripe with contemplative internal dialogue. For some of you this will be a challenge as I know its not something you are accustomed to doing, but push yourself. Lets be the best version of the group we can be.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, make your ending a good one. Don't let it end anti-climatically or foolishly, bring your character to a worthy end whether that means death or plot and be respectful of the attempts to do the same by the other players. When the moments come and they will come when its time to see a character death, retirement or critical moment, be sure to embellish and relish the moment. Give it your best role-playing effort and give your character a worthy conclusion.
Now I don't know how long this session will be. It may very well be very short, in fact, I'm sort of expecting that to a degree as I believe the final moments are upon us. While the game will end our session will not. When the story is concluded we will remain to talk vampire for the rest of the evening. This will be a time when all is revealed and I will answer any questions and allow everyone else to do the same. We will get the story behind the story and that ultimately is the goal of the night. Food, drink and the truth for a change!
Really looking forward to it guys, I hope you are too. I will see you all on Saturday!
