The Followers of Set 1886

England like much of the old world had enjoyed a rather reclusive existence that is until it started calling itself The British Empire. The age of Imperialism may be turning, but in 1886 Britain is enjoying the fruits of its labour and among the many British colonies it has rung under its ever expanding belt drawing out new breeds of kindred to Europe, Egypt has perhaps been the one that has drawn the attention of the most unwelcome of guests, The Followers of Set.   The Followers of Set have perhaps the most unique belief system and are perhaps the most unified of all the kindred clan. Their Antediluvian was and is worshiped as an Egyptian god and the clans members see themselves as a above all other clans, the chosen few who's will and importance cannot be questioned. A fact supported by their very unique and exclusively setite ritualistic occult discipline known as Serpentis.   In any city they enter they usually do so with great secrecy and as masters of misdirection they do so very successfully. Once they arrive they construct hidden temples where they practice their dark ancient rituals that make anything the Giovanni or Tremere look like childs play. One can say all Vampires are evil, but when other kindred clans speak of the things they fear that go bump in the night, they are almost always talking about the Followers of Set.   Among the Camarilla they are excluded from the conversation and not because they lack interest in entry into the global rulers of the kindred, but because a relationship with The Followers of Set is inconceivable and irreconcilable with the ideologies of the Camarilla. They have no political views, only the overtones of their ancient religions and the rituals they perform would by any standard be regarded as heresy even in the most liberal of kindred cities.   In 1882 the British Empire, tired of the uppity Egyptians staged a military occupation and for the Egyptians lack of respect and recognition of their new overlords the city of Alexandria was raised by English forces. While this had implications in the mortal world, in the dark politics of the kindred this was the start of a Camarilla - Set war that would be fought in secret places so far removed that most kindred are not even aware that such a conflict exists thanks largely to the uncanny patience of the Followers of Set.   Today its presumed that London, being the most important and capital city of the British Empire is the most vulnerable to the cults influence, yet it is unclear if any Followers of Set occupy the city, whether there are any temples under construction (or already constructed) and or if there are plots afoot. The assumption by the Camarilla is yes, but rooting out such dark, secretive creatures has at least at this point been unsuccessful and at least for now, they are yet to make their opening play in London of whatever conflict brews under the surface.   The trouble with the Followers of Set for the Camarilla is that their knowledge of the occult, in particular in the really ancient stuff is a temptation to rising vampires that is hard to refuse and if one were a betting kindred (and the Camarilla certainly are), it's a safe bet that their are collaborators taking advantage. Such is the way of hersey with vampires, they less join such cult and more leverage the advantages such a cult can provide and the Followers set, if they are anything, its providers to ambitious vampires looking for magic that lets them break the rules.   The Followers of Set are a new danger in the 19th century for Europe, yet another layer of kindred politics to deal with. Like most kindred clans that enter the picture, this frenemy comes with some benefits, but one would be a fool to ignore the drawbacks.
Serpentis is perhaps one of the rarest disciplines in the world of darkness, virtually never practiced outside of The Followers of Set. In fact the Camarilla consider practicing this discipline in any form a violation of kindred tradition, punishable by death largely because the only way to learn this discipline is to either be or associate with The Followers of Set.
