The Great Sea Serpent is an extremely long, eel-shaped fish that sleeps deep underwater at night and comes to the surface at night to feed. Accounts from ships that have survived encounters with these deadly predators suggest these deadly creatures only surface near the massive
Megaflorica islands that some believe are its primary food source, though many refuse to believe that a beast that seems to delight in tearing ships to pieces is a herbivore.
Physical Description
The Great Sea Serpent is an eel-like fish that is at least 300 feet in length - while a whole specimen has never been found, survivors of attacks have reported the creature to be capable of wrapping itself more than once around even galleons and other large ships, which it does in order to crush ships. Its body consists of an extremely thick hide, supported by a spine and ribs much like that of a snake, though on a much greater scale, and measures some 5-6 feet in diameter. It features large fins on the tip of its tail, and is covered in coarse grey-green scales.
Despite the existential threat of its coils crushing the ship, what most survivors focus on is the horror of its head. Its milky white eyes are the size of to fists pressed together, which is theorized to be an adaptation to the nocturnal environment and the low light conditions in the depths it dwells within. Its mouth opens a 10 foot diameter hole, easily capable of consuming a man whole, and is filled with row upon row of protruding needle-like teeth. These teeth feature a serrated edge along the inner side of the mouth, making them well adapted to chewing through tough plant fibres like the wood of a ship or the thick vines of Megaflorica.
Assessment of the Hunter's Guild
The
Hunter's Guild has collected several accounts of encounters with these terrifying creatures, and have concluded that it may well be a monstrous incarnation of
The Expanse, a Power that subsists off of the fear of large empty spaces, specifically as an incarnation of the fear of something vast and deadly that may be lurking in such spaces. However, without further analysis, it is considered possible that these may simply be an extremely large and dangerous sea creature that sees large floating objects like ships as sufficiently similar to the Megaflorica it normally feeds upon.
