Kaepor Owl

Large birds of prey nearly as tall as a grown Hylian, the Kaepor Owl is associated with wisdom and the Goddess Nayru. In ancient Zonai texts an owl known as Kaepora Gaebora guided an ancient hero with insight.   The Kaepor Owl shares it's status as a symbol of the Aspects with the Ordoa Wolf and the Gero Boar, aspects of Courage and Power respectively.   An ancient species of owl the Kaepor Owl has not been seen since the time of the Zonai. The owl is depicted in various Zonai reliefs, statues and ruins, usually seen guiding or transporting heroic archetypes of their mythology. While primarily seen as being connected to the goddess Nayru, they are also associated with the Oracle of Secrets, Faore.
Appearances
Depictions of the Kaepor Owl can be found throughout various Zonai Ruins in the Faron Woods, Typhlo Ruins, and the Lomei Labyrinths. One specific depiction shows a Kaepor speaking with a child-like character dressed in green guard while perched on a tree branch. The same child character is also seen on a relief depicted as enveloped between a Kaepors wings.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Kaepor closely resembles a gigantic owl, with two taloned feet which it used to perch on tree branches and catch prey, two large wings nearly 4 meters wide, and a head that could turn almost 360 degrees around on its flexible neck. Artistic depictions of the creature included two large feathery eyebrows above its eyes, which tend to give it an almost inspect like appearance. Refai hypothesizes in his Misadventures that the legendary Satori, Lord of the Mountain and the folk creatures known as Babbul share similarly designed antlers or ears.
