It ain't as fancy as the Gerudo skimming the desert sands on their shields, but it's a pinch more comfortable for the long voyages.
A small, simple wooden vessel with a smooth, waxed undersurface. Using a trained
Sand Seal as a draft animal the Sand-skiff can be pulled across the sands of the
Gerudo Desert in a relatively more comfortable way. Unlike traditional
Shield Surfing a sand-skiff does not require it's rider to stand but rather allows them to sit or lay down for more comfort. Higher quality skiffs have a variety of improvements over the simple long wooden board such as back rests for comfort or foot-pedals for better leveraging and turning.
Many sand-skiffs are built from the wood of the
Gerudo Highlands Stoneseed Pine, namely for the trees hardness, ease of carving and the reliable strength and pattern of grain. With recent exploration of the further reaches of the desert skiffs have become the vehicle of choice for explorers. Unfortunately, an inability to get any two sand seals to work in tandem has put a halt to designs of larger skiffs for traders to use to haul to goods. Some attempts have also been made in using sand-skiffs in water applications, but not without bone breaking incident.
Inspired by the shield surfing of the Gerudo people, the Sand-skiff is decidedly
Hylian in design and function, focusing more on the riders attempt to get across the desert and less on the natural sandy waves of dunes and how the sand seals pull their rider. As always, it's a matter of comfort and efficient and not exhilaration.
