Apothecary Shop
In larger cities alchemy is instructed in formal academic settings to ensure a base level of knowledge and consistent formulas, but outside of the stone walls of major cities the craft of alchemy is far less regulated and instead refered to as an "apothacary". Go into any village or town in The Thirteen Kingdoms and inquire what the most important building is, and you'll be directed to the apothecary shop. A catch-all term to refer to any local practitioner and seller of alchemical concoctions, there is practically no limit to the benefits a well stock apothecary shop can provide it's local community (outside of the alchemist's own skill with the craft of course).
Part science and part, Alchemy is a difficult craft to learn and nigh impossible to master in a single human lifespan. Regardless, many still peruse the craft, either in a genuine desire to help and aid their neighbors or in an effect to carve out their piece of respect and prosperity in their local community. An apothecary is expected to provide the village with various potions and tonics to cover varies illness, maladies, and discomforts - as well as provide a baseline medical expertise in emergency situations.
The unregulated nature of an apothecary also means a traveler is far more likely to purchase ineffective potions produced by well meaning a apothecary relying more on folk-lore and superstition than proven alchemy. This means Herbs of Healing prepared by an apothecary runs the risk of doing nothing to help an injured party recover, or even worse actually do harm if the apothecary is particularly inept.
As such, the role of an apothecary (and by extension their shop) provides an invaluable service to their local community, exceeding that of even the local blacksmith.
