The blunderbuss has been the go-to weapon for farmer's protecting their fields since the invention of Blackpowder. By its nature, it is a very dangerous weapon both to it's target and anyone near the rifle when it fires. Often inflicting bystander casualties, the rifle is regarded with apprehension and concern by anyone standing beside or behind another while they wield it. 
Consequently, nearly all towns and cities have laws restricting ownership of adventurer’s blunderbusses - leaving them to lean along the walls of various barns across [The Thirteen Kingdoms. While the blunderbuss is often described as having "stopping power" it is a terribly designed firearm that often throws it's wielder onto the ground from the kickback as it frightens off the target wildlife from the sheer volume of the rifle's blast.
