Corpse Fruit

A deep-red fruit similar in appearance to an overripe peach, the fruits are technically edible if not for their unbearably bad smell. When the flesh of the fruit is exposed to oxygen tit releases a powerful stench that bares an unmistakable resemblance to a corpse decaying in the midst of a hot summer. The smell overwhelms any who would attempt to eat the fruit, and as most species have strong connections between the "taste" and "smell" facilities those that have been brave or desperate enough to try consuming the fruit report that it sits on the pallet in the same manner that one would expect from a piece of wet and rotted flesh.
