Flatfruit

A dull gray, hard shelled (yes, shelled) fruit resembling a small thick pancake. Flatfruit grows on trees in swamps, bayous, and other moist enviroments. The shell contains an extremely unpleasant brown paste that causes most first time eaters to vomit when first consumed. Despite this, they are an essential part of navy rations due to ease of storage and scurvy prevention.
