Great Tiran of The Northlands
Basic Information
Anatomy
An imposing and massive creature, the Great Tiran is more a raw force of nature than a true animal, excluding an aura of raw strength rivaled more by natural disasters than comparable creatures. Its massive body resembles that of a bear, with heavy fur of white-blue that shields the creature from both the elements of the defensive clawings of its prey. Its face is almost cat-like, giving the entire creature a ferocious appearance as the creature explodes powerfully towards prey, often devouring all but the largest competitors in a single powerful bite.
Standing on four legs, the beast towers high enough that a grown man can easily walk under the creature, although there are none alive who can truthfully attest to doing so. Heavy horned spiked just from the creature's back, shoulders, and elbows. Believed to be used for protection and attracting mates.
Should the beast have been present in a more civilized corner of Altwaus, it would almost certainly have been marked for decimation or extinction by The Rangers. Thankfully the creatures are isolated entirely to the Northland Wilds and appear in such few numbers and isolation that they're seen by locals more as immovable obstacles to be avoided rather than an interactive part of their environment.
Growth Rate & Stages
A lack of long-term study has resulted in many gaps regarding the development cycle of the creatures, especially considering that confirmed remains of the creatures are even rarer than they are, leaving only rampant speculation as to what - if any - biological limits are placed on its lifecycle.
Ecology and Habitats
Known only to inhabit the stark wilderness of The Northlands, The Great Tiran roams its near-boundless terrain of forest, tundra, and mountainsides with complete indifference to the inhospitality of the landscape that makes up its home.
Dietary Needs and Habits
A dispassionate omnivore, the massive size of the Great Tiran makes a selective diet and unreasonable request for it's physiology. Instead, the creature shows a definite preference for warm meat and fresh kills, but spends a great deal of it's day foraging for various nuggets of nutritional value in the various plants and tree life across the Northlands.
Behaviour
Rather stoic and indifferent to its surroundings, the Great Tiran will ignore more sentient unless it is directly provoked or interfered with, at which point the creature is as like to swat the annoyance aside with a single swipe of the paw as it is to devour the creature outright with a single bite from its staggeringly powerful jaws.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Wielding a powerful sense of smell and acute hearing, the creature's eyesight is far less reliable, especially for small creatures and things within close range of it. Instead, the beast relies on a sense of tactile sensitivity. It's large paws contains millions of tiny hairs that react to the slightest tremors and vibrations on the ground immediately surrounding it, allowed the creature to easily sense creatures attempting to allude it by burrowing beneath the earth and snow of the wildlands.
