While the vast majority of humans live their lives modestly under the watchful eye of the empire, the greatest among humanity is identified for their magical capabilities and recruited by The Collegiate Arcane to become arcanists. An ancient order that predates the mere existence of humanity - it a source of pride for noble and common families alike to see their sons and daughters risen to greatness and selected for training.
Ideally chosen at a young age, most arcanists spend the entirety of their lives under the watchful eye of the Collegiate. They serve where best able, usually as advisers to the lords of the The Human Kingdoms, but also as inventors, scholars, and even generals.
The rank of journeyman represents the highest position most humans can realistically achieve - given that the depth and expertise required to even begin to master the arcane arts is beyond the scope of a single human lifespan. Regardless, journeyman are more than capable in combat - and their ability to command the vary elements around them means they can often shatter entire groups of enemies with a single spell.
