Leechroot
A long, spindly root vegetable with a charcoal coloration, Leechroot is often confused with Devilroot which can sometimes be found growing directly beside each other. This is problematic for several reasons, most of all being that Devilroot is perfectly safe when eaten raw or boiled but erupts into flame and releases a powerful toxic smoke when baked when exposed to directly flame. Conversely, Leechroot is perfectly safe to eat roasted or boiled but is a severe toxin when consumed in its raw form. While there are a few ways to determine which species of root it is with a reasonable degree of certainity, the chances of severe illness or even death are high enough that a sensible forager simply boils the roots regardless of their presumed type as it is the only way to ensure the root won't cause illness.
