R - Companion Automation
"I never liked the idea of the construct - far too noisy and expensive for my tastes. But it brought my daughter comfort after her mother passed and I will always remeber it fondly for that."A mechanical derivative from the towering Ironclads used in warfare, a Companion Automation is a distilled version of the same technology that is instead used to provide entertainment and companionship. Often shaped after various small animals found in Alwaus, the Arcane Intelligence powering these automations are usually no more sophisticated than required to respond to simple verbal commands and perform pre-defined small "tricks" that often mirror behaviors in the animals they are intended to mimic.

General Behaviors
More "toy' than actual life-form, the behaviours or two different Companion Automations will vary drastically between two models with different design purposes. A dog-like companion may bark in a friendly manner to guests and retrieve small objects, while another construct modelled after a parrot may mimick a variety of natural birdcalls on request. In nearly all cases, however, the construct is designed to be seen and admired while keeping its energy usage at a sustainable level. . That being said, it has become rather fashionable for the wealthy to demonstrate their prosperity but fielding small zoos of these creatures despite the enormous cost.
Combat Behaviors
While not designed for combat in the slightest, the fundamental programming of any arcane intelligence grants them a sense of self-preservation that kicks in should the automation or its assigned owner be directly attacked. The automation will typically attempt to draw attention to the assault through various noises or alarms, before attempting to disengage with the attacker in an effort to minimize potential damage to its own structure. That being said, there are occasional stories of Companion Automation putting themselves directly into harms way in an attempt to protect their owner - but such behaviours are too infrequent to be considered intentional programing expectations for constructs these simple.
