The Rangers of Altwaus

An ancient order that extends back to the earliest days of civilization, The Rangers are a multi-species group of adventures tasked with containing the local fauna and ensuring the feral and mythical races respect the boundaries of culture and civilization.   Most rangers are raised within the order itself, often time orphans and rejects from society, however, it's not uncommon for mature adults of any species to feel the calling to protect their friends and family from the ravages of the unchecked wilderness.   Often working in pairs or in groups of 4 or 5, Rangers spend most of their lives on the road, often traveling from town to town taking on jobs to rid villages and small cities of bothersome and often dangerous beasts and spirits.    Experts in tracking, hunting, and dispatching uncivilized species, Rangers travel to every corner of the continent and its surrounding islands to push back fang & claw as the civilized species continue their push against the pressures of Altwaus' oppressive wilderness.    Popular in serialization novels and stories, there are many misconceptions about Rangers that are only further agitated by rumors and gossip. Most critically, Rangers are sworn to take no part in the conflicts and affairs of the civilized species, and instead can only accept payment for bounties and services conducted to protect society from the threat of monsters.    While generally followed, there are rare exceptions to this where the Rangers have become directly involved in conflicts or taken up arms against civilized species like Murlock or Farrow, typically at the insistence of a powerful noble within the [The Thirteen Kingdoms.

I really like how this legit organization has become popular from novels and stories. Reminds me of gunslingers in the american wild west. Great Article!
