Whitesong Flower
Basic Information
Anatomy
White petal flowers that grow in even-numbered groupings of 2-8, the Whitesong Flower grows from slender, wiry stems that sprout in bunches from the crevices of cliffs and mountainsides. Sturdy, despite their thin appearance, the flowers are resistant to being trampled or crushed by careless creatures of people crossing through their habitat. The stems are a pale yellowish-green with clusters of elongated leaves of deeper green at the base to help anchor the flower into it's rock home.
The layered petals of Whitesong are velvety to the touch, with a gentle curve to the outermost petals. Surprisingly elegant considering their harsh environment, the center of the flower contains a yellow-white cluster of nector glands.
Genetics and Reproduction
Like most plants and flowers, the Whitesong Flower relies on airborne pollination for it's primary means of reproduction, however they are also able to reproduce through vegetative propagation, where a portion of the flower's stem or roots becomes detached. If the detached piece becomes attacked to a passing animal or person, it can then be deposited into another environment, where, if conditions are favorable, it can develop into a new cluster of Whitesong.
Ecology and Habitats
Found primarily in the cliffs and mountains of the Northland Wilds where the climate is both dryer and cooler than elsewhere in Alwaus, the Whitesong Flower is borderline helophilic, requiring an abundance of natural sunlight to grow and survive. As such, these flowers are well adjusted to flourish in an environment where many of flora struggles to gain a footing.
Additional Information
Domestication
Attempts at bringing the flowers out of the northlands to be cultivated within [The Thirteen Kingdoms have been unsuccessful at any large scale. Small levels of cultivation have seen some limited success, but the plants that do survive have such a fickle temperament for temperature, moisture, and sunlight that they rarely grow to the strength of their natural counterparts.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The pollen of the Whitesong plan is a powerful alchemical catalyst, used in a variety of beneficial serums of Alchemy. Healing potions activated with Whitesong are known to be particularly soothing to physical strain and trauma, however, the difficulty in accessing the flower's environment makes alchemical potions made from Whitesong rare, especially outside of northern Kaldaria and The Stormbreak Islands, where explorers on the Northlands are more likely to introduce new batches of the pollen into the marketplace.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Prominitely found in the west and southern portions of the Northland Wilds, it is unclear just how vast the distribution of this flower is, as so much of the Northlands remains unknown and undiscovered.
