The Impasse

Peace. Peace and progress marked the entirety of the world of Yucamel, each continent focused on the goal of expansion and knowledge. Then came the demons and devils, years of straining against the celestial bonds that bound them, shed in one final, era changing push for freedom. Bursting from fissures in the ground, raining from the sky, and erupting from the depths of the sea abyssal creatures spread into the world, followed almost immediately by a stream of the divine, desperate to undo their mess. What followed was six months of celestial war, great trenches being torn in the landscape, magic warping and twisting reality beyond comprehension. At the end of the bi-annual war, the abyssal scourges were banished once again to the celestial bondage of their punishment but the toll on Yucamel was horrifying. Whole continents were marred beyond comprehension, whole people groups eradicated in the heavenly crossfire. Thus began a new age, an age of rebirth and instability, but free of the celestial battles of the beginning.
