Gnomes

Gnomes are a short and naturally intelligent race that are known for their wonderous gizmos and inventions and for being natual artificers. They are quite small, standing between 3 to 4 feet tall and only usually only  weighing around 40 pounds. They possess pointed ears but they are more rounded than those of elves. Possessing fey ancestry, they are also relativly long lived, usually living up 350 years.
Gnomes usually prefer to live underground, just not as deep as say dwarves for example, constructing their homes as earthen burrows on the surface. These burrows usually having tunnels or other passages leading to other sections. Gnomes do still prefer to spend their time on the surface though. (Think Hobbit homes)
Naturally curious, inquisitive, and inventive, gnomes are spread widely throughout the known world and can be found in most settlements, often offering their services as purveyors of magic items or enchanters but they can also fill most any role in society. Gnomes are also renowned throught the known world for their inventions and feats of artificing.
