Mountainhome of Baruk-Khazad

No one knows when exactly the dwarven mountainhome of Baruk-Khazad was first established, even the dwarven chronicalists, with their extensive archives and libraries, no longer know exactly when this massive underground city came to be.   Baruk-Khazad is the biggest dwarven hold in the the region, earning it the dwarven title of mountainhome, and is the seat of dwarven government for the surrounding area. Some of Its old holdings, connected by the dwarven Under Roads, can be found in parts of the Vysokiy Mountains and the Sachenwald Mountains, but most, if not all of them, have fallen overtime to relentless attacks by invaders from the deep. Goblins, kobolds, and other horrors are known to stalk the Underdark and the far reaches of The Under Roads. But dwarves are nothing if not stout and stubborn and the great mountainhome of Baruk-Khazad has never been penetrated by invaders. Be they from the depths of the Underdark or the surface above.   Due to relentless invaders from below and fears they might eventually have to deal with the same from above, Baruk-Khazad follows a stance of isolationism, only allowing a select few licensed surface merchants to conduct trade within the city, with the dwarves themselves doing very little importing or exporting, preferring instead to be self sufficent.   Dwarven builders and architects are renowned throughout the world for their designs and craftdwarfship. The dwarves of Baruk-Khazad are the ones that built the imperial highway network on the surface that connects the entire Heartlands after being hired by Kaiser Otto “The Builder” in 486 BIS and is the largest architectural undertaking the dwarves have done since.
