The Cleric's Guide to Miercna
A clerical guide to the city, as published by High Priest Merrow Heafoc (Born 945, Died 990)
In the name of our Goddess, we bid you remember the greatness of the trust that is now to be committed to your charge.
As a cleric, you are the reminder of the goodness of The Goddess Unspeakable. You must hold onto that goodness as you face the trials of life.
The world sends challenges against our faith. Challenges like secular education, music, alcohol, hallucinations of 'spirits' and dancing. These sins must be ignored!
The only thing in Miercna a cleric needs to concern himself with is his spiritual life! A spiritual life is a healthy life. With a diet of fasting and prayer, my ancestors lived well into their eighties and nineties, just as I will!
Without further ado, here is my top ten list for best places to pray in Miercna.
- The Cathedral - The church of the great Goddess, we pray to the reliquays of her family and remind ourselves of her love for us as we channel her divine power to heal the sick for money.
- The Docks - the Dockyard and the Sea Ward are places filled with sinners and strangers. It's important to take a walk down here once a day to remind oneself of those we need to Save. But it is dangerous, even for a cleric! As I said to my wife recently, I had 10 gold coins fall out of my pocket and land on a bookie's table! Although I won a sizeable prize on something called 'the dog race', I had to flog myself in penance for this accidental sin. WE MUST REMAIN VIGILANT, BROTHERS!
- The Spiritual Seminars at Miercna University - After noticing how many vulnerable university students were in need of spiritual guidance, I set up these after hours seminars. The work of trying to save these young women's souls from evil is long and hard. Sometimes, I don't get home til morning. SIN IS EVERYWHERE. WE MUST GUARD AGAINST IT!
- The Prancing Pony Inn - This merchant tempts all with its ales and music. It's important to go inside for long prayerful sessions where one proves that alcohol has no effect on the bodies of the truly faithful. STAND STRONG, BROTHERS!!!
- The Playhouse - one must attend the playhouse often to ensure that filth is not being peddled on its boards. I attended a play recently where the lead actress REMOVED HER SOCKS IN A SCENE, SHOWING HER FEET TO ALL! I was so disgusted I had to attend five more times in order to pray over the audience and save their souls from sin! WE SHALL NEVER FALL, BROTHERS!
- The Music Hall - all the gyrating and dancing, ugh!! I have chosen the strategy of stealthily praying over the bodies of those I choose to dance with. WE MUST USE ANY STRATEGY TO SAVE THE NON-BELIEVERS!
- The Imperial Doctor's Office - "Dr" Hertz calls herself a doctor but she's not even a cleric. Imagine healing while not being a cleric. THAT'S CALLED SIN, BUDDY.
- The Imperial Palace - due to my skill as a cleric, I'm often called to the Imperial Palace to help The Emperor with any issues. The beautiful tapestries and stained glass windows makes this my favourite place to pray away any feelings of uncertainty or worry.
- The Market - Commerce is a sin, as is coveting material goods. It's important to explain to traders that their products are cheaply made and that you deserve a discount!
- The Coffee House - almost everyone in the Coffee House is guilty of SIN. They were a forum where evildoers plotted against the emperor, and now they're a home for those guilty of the sin of GOSSIP. It's important to pray here quietly to listen in to the latest news. It only counts as gossip if you're actively participating, after all.
- The Pie Shop - Remember to test your resolve by fasting at the Pie Shop. Once you feel you've proven all that you can, feast and thank the goddess for your meal!
