Kowaika Rest and Reef

Kowaika Rest is a moderately sized port built into the eponymous Kowaika Reef. Kowaika Reef is a large collection of asteroids that have formed a series of sheltered coves in the outer periphery of Deyalo Domain. The reef itself was always home to a small number of transient clans that effectively 'wintered' in the reef while they travelled from port to port. A permanent settlement was established following the narrow escape by the Demyan Convoy. The convoy was originally planning on travelling from the port near the Kokori Shoal (starting point) to the Transit Relay to Jombira but was caught in a sky-storm. In the modern period, this is not uncommon. The convoy was nearly scattered and destroyed until they found refuge in the outer edges of Kowaika Reef. As the storm grew in intensity, the convoy pushed further in until they reached the heart of the reef, which was calm like the eye of a storm. The convoy was stuck in the reef for the better part of a year before the storm subsided. 

While a couple Lagasi engines left, the majority of the convoy chose to remain in the safety of the reef. When the nomadic clans returned to the reef, they found a small but vibrant port built into the reef and home to a collection of Lagasi engines. Thrilled to have a new home of sorts, the port welcomed the nomads who knew more about the intricacies of the reef and helped to buoy the port with new food sources and materials that they had missed. In time, the port in the heart of the reef took its name and became Kowaika Rest.

Most homes are either directly carved into the rock of the reef or additions built of a mix of wood, cloth and brick. More modern materials are imported, which is easy as many traders actively try to pass through Kowaika Rest as the region is one of the more safe places in regards to the sky-storms.
