Nakara Warding Array

In the aftermath of the Deep One Wars and the growing threat of the random and arcane sky-storms, the Nakara Guild (among other groups) spearheaded the development of protections against the mystical side of the storms. The guild and its researchers built upon the existing knowledge regarding runic magic derived from the ancient ruins around the Domains to try and shield settlements from the worst ravages of the sky-storms. The early attempts of rune shields were semi-successful. The ward did not completely protect the town but they did blunt the storm's magical damage. Thus, further resources poured into to refine this arcane defense as something was better than nothing.
In the modern period, wards & ward development are in a way akin to antibodies: the wards currently are generally quite effective protections against known threats from sky-storms. However, each storm is different and unique with novel threats manifesting with each new storm. These new dangers, such as howling winds which hypnotize people who hear them to walk into the storm itself, are difficult to blunt or stop entirely. But subsequent ward schemes are usually more effective then the prior ones. One researcher has likened the process to an arms race. Sadly, this is a reactive race on the Deyalan side. But with each new storm and test, the wards get better and better.
Nakara wards are seen as among the best and most reliable. Due to the heavy support the guild gets from other invested groups and governmental forces, the Nakara guild has poured its accumulated wealth into ever improving its wards. Every knows the wards won't totally protect a town from a sky-storm, but Nakara wards in particular will ensure that there will still be a town and populace after said sky-storm passes to try again.
Nakara ward arrays (along with equivalent ward schemes) are elaborate and mathematically precise constructions of runes, connections and power sites carved or painted into a town, wall or region to magically shield it from the impact of a sky-storm. Ward arrays supplement traditional defenses like walls, levees and the like.
