AbadarCorp

A(H)-bi'daar-core

Abadar's church, AbadarCorp, is simultaneously a religious institution, credit-lending agency, and one of the most successful and powerful corporations in the Pact Worlds. Its managers and executives serve as the church’s priests, and the company’s many offices, stores, trading outposts, and warehouses double as temples and can be found on almost every settled world.

Structure

Although the Chief Executive and Department Heads are gathered in the headquarters of AbadarCorp, Managers are often left to their own devices to lead a temple - or franchise of temples - in a certain area, such as the huge megastore in Qabarat or the various shrine/minimarts within Sovyrian. Managers employ various Merchants as needed, with Zealots being traded around from place to place of their own free will.

Public Agenda

Some see the AbadarCorp as an immoral, money-hungry organisation, but most are attracted to commitment by the promising displays of wealth, prestige, and structure.

Assets

AbadarCorp's temples double as offices, stores, trading outposts, and warehouses, all built in an unmistakable and seemingly contradictory style: solid, practical construction (to protect against thieves) that is richly ornamented (to showcase the wealth that often resides within) and can be found on almost every settled world. Many of these buildings also feature durable, translucent-ceramic windows tinted a vivid yellow to cast the interiors in a golden hue.

Mythology & Lore

Followers of Abadar tend to hold the belief that he was responsible for elevating the sentient races of the Material Plane from primitive tribes into technological civilizations, and many seek to follow his example when they encounter less advanced civilizations on newly discovered planets or when they establish new settlements and trade networks.

Ethics

Abadar favours neither good nor evil, as both sides have their benefits, but he supports employment over slavery, as paid workers can contribute their own accumulated wages to the commercial markets and thus the profitability of civilization as a whole.

Worship

Abadar rewards caution and planning, and he rejects impulsiveness. He is not a hasty deity, knowing that the expansion of civilization and law is gradual but inevitable. Only through discipline, hard work, and incisive judgment can one attain happiness and wealth. Risk is occasionally called for and can generate lucrative rewards, but only after careful planning and consideration of all known factors.

Abadar's most fervent worshipers are generally aristocrats, colonists, entrepreneurs, lawyers, politicians, and traders, but many poor people venerate the Master of the First Vault in hopes of attracting his attention and reversing their fortunes. The occasional artist or artisan who is devoted to Abadar strives to duplicate the perfect forms of the objects found within his realm with their own works.

Priesthood

The letters next to each name are the approved abbreviations used by AbadarCorp.

Chief Executive (CE)

The highest-ranked director of the corporate angle of AbadarCorp, and the connector between Abadar and the more religious side of the organisation. While the CE wields considerable power, coupled with the skill and talent required to reach this foundation the entire organisation still bends the knee to their watchful patron.

Department Head (DH)

The DH shares a role as both Archbishop and Manager of a specific division, such as weaponry sales or marketing. They provide spiritual guidance to various AbadarCorp Employee leadership, while also advising them on business stratagem.

Manager (MGR)

Often the owner-operator of a temple, maintaining their franchise while teaching and drawing in new disciples to the temple.

Zealot (Z)

A lowly position often needed by the Church of Abadar. Zealots provide the muscle for collecting money on time and in an orderly fashion, as well as guarding the fortress-like temples where valuable artefacts, bars of gold and platinum and digital servers holding stupendous amounts of digital currency. They are often wielding expensive equipment, rented (never sold!) through AbadarCorp.

Merchant (MCT)

Merchants and Priests are one and the same in AbadarCorp. Attorneys, advisors, accountants, couriers and more all must know and comprehend the detailed laws established by Abadar through his chosen Chief Executive. Additionally, the laws are updated over the years necessitating regular study to still be considered worthy.

Indebted (DTR)

Those who have failed to meet their payments to AbadarCorp are the Indebted, often having agreed to serve the rest of their term serving AbadarCorp's employees in the afterlife. They can often be found taking care of the menial tasks within temples: cleaning, maintenance, and so on.

"Every credit that changes hands, is a smile on Abadar's golden face"
