Captain Balto Thundercog
Standing on a stool to look over his desk, the small form of Captain Balto Thundercog does not give the most intimidating impression at first glance. Even a second glance however, will take in the sharp intelligence of those eyes - shrewder than the glowing enthusiasm so often seen in a gnome's face. The light breastplate of his uniform doesn't cover up the sturdy muscles beneath, and he stands with the unmistakable edge of a tiger ready to pounce - that energy makes him plenty intimidating after a few minutes in his company.
His wispy grey hair speaks of his advanced age, marking the experience of centuries, mostly spent in the life of a guard. Coming to Daring Heights from Faerun, where he spent his life defending the people and the law in Neverwinter. Balto seldom shares his personal life with others, but talk amongst the guards has pieced together some fragments of the legend - over 200 years serving in the city watch of Neverwinter and he was never raised to the highest office to run the show, always kept a step or two further down the chain of command, shuffled from department to department. Daring Heights has been his chance to show what can happen when he is given the command he has earned.
He is stern-faced but has been known to recognise when sometimes things to need to move outside the standard protocols - certainly some have noted the leniency he has shown towards Grimes, a similarly experienced guard-paladin who has sometimes stepped beyond acceptable measures. His figure is small, but he long ago learned to project his voice mightily, and on bad days in the guardhouse his voice can be heard clear across the building.
Some have dared to laugh at the name of Thundercog. Once.
