Personal history
Granny was once a young hag in Kantas, one of three in the Longtooth Coven. They schemed and they terrorized villages and cooked up all sorts of horrors in their cauldron. Granny however, found that her ambitions lay far beyond the paltry vision of her sisters. She wanted to rule.
No one quite knows what happened next, but the result was a staff with two red gems orbiting it, each containing one of her sisters. They say that 3 hags together far outstrip the power of 3 hags apart, and now Granny walked the world with her sisters' power at her fingertips.
This was perhaps two centuries before the founding of Daring. Over that period she gained a certain notoriety in the region, particularly in Kundar. Her style of acting as a mediator in bargains on behalf of clients never failed to draw in the desperate, and big cities churn out desperate people in large amounts.
By the time Viscount William Daffles and Aurelia Archselon stepped through the portal, Granny had been forced to leave Kundar at long last and was an altogether other level of power, striding across the land in her walking cottage. Seeing an opportunity, she met with Daffles for some time. The result was that when the town was then established, she was already settled in with her cottage on the edge of the Feythorn Forest to the south, a short walk for anyone wanting to visit. The surrounding woodlands for several miles were also off-limits to all logging companies. What she gave in return was not clear, but Daring grew and prospered quickly and Daffles' efforts and trade negotiations were remarkably successful.
The adventurers of Daring also began to deal with Granny as the town expanded, and it didn't take long before one individual took a special interest in how she seemed to deal with such vast power so easily. Nowhere approached Granny in secret one day and proposed an apprenticeship, to learn her bargaining ways from her.
This was unusual to be sure, but Granny would seldom pass an opportunity to get another hook into someone and agreed - teaching him how to summon and bargain with fiends and fey alike with eldritch rituals in the dead of night in the forest.
Meanwhile, events in Daring progressed and Granny helped in the war against the Twilight. A few months later, however, Granny's cottage disappeared overnight and she was never seen near Daring again.
This had been her plan all along, however. She had amassed all manner of power and favours over her centuries of life but what she had been gathering more than anything else was souls.
Granny had located a patch of the Feywild very close to Daring which was unclaimed by the various lords and ladies of the Fey Courts. Using a ritual she had traded dearly for, fueled by 99 souls she had collected over the years, Granny created the Witchhold, a demiplane within the Feywild contained within a large inky black hemisphere.
There she established her realm - a place to gather witches and to rule over as Queen. She was establishing herself as a political player in the Fey Courts and had ambitions to climb still higher. And for some time, Daring Heights heard relatively little from her as a result.
Then her apprentice returned from his seclusion. Nowhere emerged in Kantas again, now at the head of an army of giants and trolls. He would assault the Witchhold directly and either eliminate Granny or take her power for his own. Granny heard of his plans and his designs to involve the other adventurers and began making overtures of her own to them, as well as other preparations.
A month or two after, late in Daring's 4th year, Queen Granny Longtooth led a force of Formians and hags against Nowhere's army, along with a few choice allies she had gathered. She and Nowhere fought in an epic magical duel which lasted nearly an hour, both drawing deeply on magical reservoirs they had stored for just such an occasion. Just as it looked like Granny would be victorious however, Rholor the High Priest of Selune arrived ahead of a large contingent of adventurers, and he activated an artifact of the Moonlit King to pin both Granny and Nowhere to the ground.
The adventurers present had just acquired an artifact which could kill a being as powerful as them. Ultimately, Taffeta, Daisy, Grimes and Elrich were the ones to activate the device and Granny was slain in a beam of incredibly powerful fey magic.
