Morvakkir - The Crackling Doom

The Sea of Tears is quite densely populated, perhaps relating to its position between the continents of Kantas and Joran. From Elementals to Slaadi, a few errant portals throughout the sea have permitted a number of extra-planar beings to take up residence in these waters. The most fearsome creature in the sea, however, is a native to the Material Plane. The Tritons call them Morvakkir - the Crackling Doom.   A monstrous electric eel, in this turbulent sea they have been known to grow to colossal proportions - over 100ft in length. Veiny tubes run along its side in several places, carrying a viciously strong electric current which it can discharge at will with either precise targetting to fry or waves of electricity to leave prey stunned. Its jaw is powerful enough to tear through most metals with ease, and while given a Morvakkir's length it is easy enough to stay away from the mouth, the rest of the body is just as dangerous with lightning bolts and the potential to just become constricted within its vast body.   As is often the case with massive creatures, there are only ever a few at a time, but one alone can obliterate and consume almost anything in its path. Even other terrors of the sea like a dragon turtle would struggle against its coiling body and constant electrocution. The Morvakkir eat what they wish, though fortunately do seem to be omnivorous, so occasionally will be satisfied with devouring an entire forest of kelp.   The sentient creatures of the sea - tritons, merfolk, etc. - know well to avoid these creatures, their name for them being derived from the distant crackling and snapping sound of lightning in the water that heralds the approach of doom. Sometimes, however, they form raiding parties to try and eliminate the beasts, and certainly when the nest of such a creature is found a group will go in to make sure any eggs are destroyed before more are spawned.   A ferocious predator that swims swiftly, stuns with lightning and then devours, often without slowing its pace, is one of the main reasons that the Sea of Tears has its name - it's a very dangerous place.
