Rumours
For the adventurers of The Dawnlands, paperwork is something generally avoided as much as possible. Anything requiring adventurers to actually give their names - or worse, a forwarding address - are just asking for a mixture of poor calligraphy and outright lies. That said, there is a piece of paper that every mercenary and hero will keep their eyes out for - the Rumours posted on the boards in taverns in Daring Heights, Port Ffirst and recently New Hillborrow.
Rumours, jobs, quests, cries for help, whatever people want to call them, are hardly a standardised form or document. Letters on perfumed parchment from nobles in town, beer-stained dishrags with a crudely sketched map in charcoal, neatly folded requests nailed to the board from distant nations - they come in all forms and methods. What they all have in common is their contents - an adventure, or the potential for one. Whether just a cave that a fellow adventurer saw but was unable to explroe fully, or a direct job offer from a local citizen, every item nailed to the various boards in the Ettin, the Seashank, the Hook or any of the other taverns are sure to lead to something dangerous and profitable.
There was talk of standardising these varying requests into a formal document that can be placed up neatly and handled in a systematic way, to ensure that important jobs aren't ignored and that all of the documents are legibile and intelligible. The various tavernkeepers all rejected these plans out of hand though - if there's one thing they've learned about their clientele, it's that they fall far more into the realms of chaos than order. So the 'system' remains the same - bring in or send in anything requesting aid to one of the taverns and it'll get stuck to the job board and picked up by whatever band of adventurers manages to form.
