Numpkins

An old human folktale in The Eastlands speaks of mythical creatures named Numpkins. They are associated with a scale of both good and evil, granting gifts to children who are good and kind to those around them, who follow the words of their noble lords without question and accept their parents wills.   The naughty children are stolen and replaced with a Numpkin, the child is then taken back to a Numpkin lair and then helplessly watch through the imposters eyes in a magical well. The child's parents are unable to see the difference between the vile Numpkin and their stolen son or daughter.   Often the tale of Numpkins is told to children and adults simply laugh at the mention of it. A common phrase when someone says something ridiculous is to accuse the person of believing in the outlandish tale.
"Relax now, the sky is dark due to the terrible weather. It doesn't mean a god has died, I bet you are afraid of a Numpkin stealing your child too!"
Typically Numpkins are implied to be of short stature or otherwise of very small size, they are all very different in appearance but all carry a uneasy aura. Said to travel in large parties of up to thirty, violence and Numpkins have never been related but sometimes frustrated parents love to twist and shift the tale.
