The Great Lighthouse

The Great Lighthouse (or the Lighthouse of Kadukuren) is a massive lighthouse built on the islands just off the coast of the royal capital of Kadukuren. The Great Lighthouse is truly massive, easily 300 feet tall and built on a large portion of Tivon Island (the main island). It was initially commissioned for construction by Ntiklon Xavnus, the first king, but he would not live to see its completion. His son, Ntiklon Snenes, would oversee the Great Lighthouse's completion. The construction took a little over 14 years to finish as much of the stone for the lighthouse had to be quarried from much further inland and then transported down the Fiyek to the coast at Kadukuren. The finished product is a monument to the architectural skills of both the Pagavenur people (of whom the main architects were from) and the Enxetites (who provided highly capable supplementary architects and most of the labor force).   The Lighthouse is predominantly a functional building, meant to help guide in ships in safely into Kadukuren's Great Harbor at night. It has two lesser functions though. It has been used as a sort of massive beacon for the capital, particularly for the rare naval engagements in and around the region around the capital and a large chunk of the Fiyek's delta. It was also built to function as a temple to the gods of the sea and rivers, and it is traditional for most civilian and military captains to provide an offering to the Temple of Tivon to gain the blessings of the gods and hope for a smooth, uneventful sea voyage whenever possible. The Tivon temple is also the first stop on the Mourning Parade for a recently decease Monarch. The body will be left in Tivon Temple for a few hours to beg the gods for a safe journey for the decease up the Fiyek to his or her final resting place.
