Sword Coast
The Sword Coast was a region on the north-western coast of Faerûn. While it comprised a rough landscape of rugged hills, precarious mountain ranges and dense forests, it was home to several like-minded towns and cities. The most prominent of these cities banded together with nearby allies to form The Lords' Alliance, which united much of the region well into the late 15th century DR.
Some say the Sword Coast took its name from the white cliffs that rose up sharply for hundreds of miles along the coastline between the River Dessarin and Baldur's Gate. Traveling author Volothamp Geddarm attributed the region's name to its dangerous inhabitants, both humanoid and bestial.
Geography
The region stretched from Baldur's Gate in the south to the Spine of the World in the north, and from the coast to the Savage Frontier.
