Arcannus

Arcannus the name is the form of energy responsible for magic and magical phenomena. Sometimes simply referred to as "arcane energy", arcannus is created by all forms of true life, and is the fuel by which all arcane practice or "magic" is powered.   Measured scientifically in Archons, 1 archon is defined as the amount of arcannus required to produce visible light in a one-gram crystal of rock salt. While arcannus is measured and understood as a form of energy, it is known that arcannus possesses characteristics more closely resembling matter than energy, and it is theorised that it may exist as a seperate state somewhere between the two.

At times, arcannus seems to be purely a form of energy. At other times, it seems to "exist" as matter does, in a physical sense without being properly observable as a type of currently understood matter.

Generation

Arcannus is most commonly formed as simple, bi-product of life. Just as a living creature creates heat as it breaks down food for energy, a living soul creates arcannus while maintaining its arcanostasis. The generation of arcannus by the soul is not well understood, but remains a simple and well-known fact of life; a thing bearing true life, and therefore a soul, creates arcannus. In most life, this arcannus is barely measurable. Most plants create the equivalent 2-3 archons per day, and is usually used by the plant toward their daily energy requirements or dissipated into the weave.

The Weave and Spellcraft.

The Weave is the grand "fabric" of the Universe in which arcannus flows, allowing the balanced exchange of energy between planes and maintaining arcanostasis between realms and aspects of the universe. The weave being present in all instances of time and space allows the universe to slowly keep balance of where energy resides. The Weave can be accessed through spellcraft. This spellcraft can take multiple forms and avenues, but ultimately results in the same effect; accessing magic from elsewhere to create a desired effect.

To sustain life

Some creatures, notably deep-living fungal species, utilise the soul's natural production of arcannus to sustain them when they cannot gain another source of energy. These creatures seem to have evolved souls that produce large amounts of excess arcannus, supporting the theory that souls can evolve and change like any other part of natural biology.

As false life

Arcannus is responsible for false life, usually as the result of necromancy practices. To create false life, a body must be imbued with arcnanus from an external source.

In religion

It is widely believed that arcannus is the one gift of Ei, the Mother God and creator of all life. It is believed that all arcannus energy was once Ei's and now forms an endless cycle of life, death and rebirth. It's widely understood that the gods can collect arcannus from the world, other gods or from the weave
