Dro'Ta

Dro'Ta or as it is more commonly known, Deadtongue, is a prevalent and ancient language with seemingly elvish roots that was used widely in the first age. While it utilises a variant of elvish script, its grammatical structure is vastly different to modern-day elvish. The study of Dro'Ta is a popular academic persuit, many believing that unlocking its secrets will reveal a wealth of untold history and magic.

Distribution

Dro'Ta was used, at least in its written form across the globe. It appears to have been a common "universal" language that was learned by traders and academics, to allow for ease of trade and distribution of knowledge. Many believe it was not commonly spoken, and was usually presented in written form to preserve knowledge and share information between two parties of different origins. Some scholars go as far as to suggest that Dro'Ta did not have a spoken equivalent.

Modern understanding

Dro'Ta is still very poorly understood, but is undergoing a lot of highly funded research. Wall reliefs depicting religious ceremonies accompanied by Dro'Ta text are one useful source of translatable information as many of these religious ceremonies still exist in some form in modern times. Using modern knowledge of the portrayed ceremony, researchers attempt to gather snippets of information by circumstantial understanding.
