Funerary Petrification

Petrification is an arcane funerary process undertaken by members of the Brisimeri elite in order to slowly convert tissue to glass through arcane transmutation

Process

Petrification involves extensive knowledge of advanced transmutation magic and access to a great deal of time and energy, and those who make this process their profession are known as petrifiers. One body can take months to fully process with a team of skilled petrifiers, and therefore the process is usually reserved for the very wealthy.  Practitioners will lay out and preserve the body with usual means- usually through chemical or herbal embalming, to delay any premature rotting. Petrifiers usually also take on the role of mortician and embalmer as well as performing their specialised skills and usually remain with the body throughout the entire process. Once embalming is completed, the petrifiers begin utilising magic and ritual to painstakingly convert tissue into glass. Certain colours and clarities and structure are harder to achieve and require more skill and work to complete with high quality results. 

Veridian Royalty

It is an age-old tradition for members of Viridian royalty or nobility to be petrified after death. Blue glass is reserved only for the highest members of the royal family, lower nobility opting for purples and reds. Most common folk who stumble into royalty and choose certification opt for simple colours such as amber and white.
