Greattree Ward

A Greattree Ward, known as an Eirro in wood elvish, is a magical item crafted by wood elvish druids of various Greattree  circles across the known world. Only able to be created with the help of their bonded tree, the wards are considered a precious gift, only given to allies to the Greattree itself, usually as thanks for a great act of selflessness.

Appearance

Greattree Wards are usually presented as a bracelet, necklace or headpiece. Almost always represented by a twisting branch of the tree it was gifted from, the jewellery may feature undying leaves, buds of flowers or other unique qualities of their specific tree. Occasionally, the piece appears gilded or coated in a shimmer or other magical effect. However, more often than not the ward is less gaudy and obvious, to prevent the wearer from being targeted by thieves.

Effects

An Eirro is a simple, yet powerful protective object made to shield the wearer from harm. It is embued with the power of a shielding spell that the wearer can activate to protect themselves in times of great threat or peril. Once the spell is activated the magic of the item is spent, and the jewellery usually dissipates or withers away.

Creation

Any items created with the magic of Greattrees are only ever made by their druids with explicit permission or approval of the tree itself, and Eirro are no exception. It is poorly understood how the druids of Greattrees receive messages or confirmation, as it is said that the trees rarely communicate in clear words or sentences; but the instruction to create a ward is usually fairly clear and direct. The druids are able to create a Greattree Ward using a specific ritual, the process requiring three druids and a full day of work. The druids select living branches or vines of a tree and enchant them into the jewellery using ancient ritual methods, thought to be very different to those used for scholarly enchantment. This enchantment cannot be broken by regular dispelling magic, and requires extreme power or the will of the original three druids to undo the spell.

Rarity

It is standard for all druids of Greattrees to wear an Eirro at all times, and if it is used, the charm is replaced so they can be protected once again. Usually, these Eirro are matching amongst the group of a single circle, giving a sense of unity and oneness between the members. Greattree Wards are not gifted outside of the circle lightly, and are extremely rare items in the greater world. It is considered a great honour to be gifted one, and this honour is usually reserved for those who have completed a very notable task or act of selflessness protecting the Greattree or its people.
