Irasil's Teeth, sometimes known as "silkstone" or "moondagger", is a fairly common crystal found in mountain caves, formed by evaporation of underground streams. Named because of their sharp, dagger-like structure, they are reminiscent of fangs or large sharp teeth.
Qualities
The stone is surprisingly soft, soft enough to scratch with a fingernail. The surface is silky and almost powdery to the touch. Milky white in colour, it has brilliant silvery chatoyancy under direct light. The sharp tower or wand-like structure of the naturally growing cyrstals makes them visually impressive. However, they are very easily shattered and because of this, are rarely found in large pieces. Large decorative pieces can be very rare and expensive, driving a lucrative market of counterfeit crystals.
When ground into a powder it can be quite dangerous to the lungs due to its fibrous and shard-like consistency. Using respiratory personal protection such as masks or face coverings while grinding the mineral is recommended.
Cultural Significance and Uses
Despite its most common name, the stone is not considered significant to Irasil or his worship. It is, however, quite highly favoured by Eluvias for rituals and spells, as well as decoration on her followers' clothing.
In alchemy, powdered Irasil's Teeth is useful in making poison antidotes, but must be properly powdered and prepared with oils to prevent it being accidentally inhaled when taken.
