Elves
The elves are an ancient and noble race who once ruled over most of the Known World. Despite the world spanning size of their past nation, they now live in isolated woods and caves meticulously shaped to suit their every need. Elves have what other races would describe as a complete mastery of magic, fully integrating the manipulation of the weave into their society.
High Elves:
The most widely known of all elves, the noble high elves reside in the Kingdom of Manafel within the great forest of Aria. Despite being so far north, bordering the freezing tundra at the very edge of the known world, arcane climate controls throughout the forest ensure those under its canopy stay warm throughout even the harshest winter.
The entire kingdom can be described as one massive city with a vast sprawl of houses, amenities and industry perfectly integrated into the woods. Descending from the aristocracy of the old elvern empire, Manafel is an extremely high trust society and most buildings have no need for doors, leading to open plan architecture. Despite this, lawbreakers face harsh sentencing for any crime.
Wood Elves:
Before the collapse of the old elvern empire, there began a movement to forgo magical conveniences and live among nature simply as it was. Seeing urban life as a guilded cage, many elves sought to shed the great trappings of the time and return to a more primitive society. Because of this, these elves were untouched by the fall of elfdom and became the race now known as the wood elves.
Populating various forest across the known world, the wood elves have made their homes in small communities gathering around places of natural beauty. To hide themselves from potential enemies and to avoid detracting from the beauty of the land, they camouflage their homes into the landscape.
Wood elves are too few to maintain the lands they care for, thus many communities have utilised goblin slaves for centuries. The elves treat their slaves very well and so long as a goblin fulfills his duties he will want for nothing.
Dark Elves:
Not much is known about the collapse but the indelible mark it left on the majority of elves drove them from the surface and deep into the underdark. Now known as the dark elves, they have spread throughout the subterranean caverns to form a new civilisation and continue to indulge in the vices that brought their empire low.
Their new environment and endless hubris has divided the dark elves into several queendoms across the land. Each slowly developing her own subculture.
